Every April, we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)—a time to raise awareness, support survivors, and recommit ourselves to preventing sexual violence in every part of our community.
At U Care, Inc., this month is a reminder of the importance of showing up for survivors with compassion, advocacy, and practical support. For years, U Care has worked to serve individuals and families in Sampson County who have been impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault, offering confidential services designed to help survivors find safety, support, and hope.
Sexual violence affects people of every age, gender, and background. Its impact can be long-lasting, affecting emotional well-being, relationships, and a person’s sense of safety. During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we take time not only to recognize those realities, but also to remind survivors that they are not alone and that help is available.
Awareness matters because silence allows violence to continue. Education, prevention, and community support all play a role in creating a safer future. When we talk openly about consent, respect, healthy relationships, and how to support survivors, we help break down stigma and create space for healing.
At U Care, we are committed to walking alongside survivors by providing services that meet immediate and ongoing needs. Through crisis support, advocacy, support groups, and assistance connecting individuals with outside counseling resources, we work to ensure survivors have access to the care and support systems they need. We understand that healing looks different for everyone, and no one should have to navigate that journey alone.
Support can take many forms. Sometimes it means listening without judgment. Sometimes it means helping someone understand their options. Sometimes it means standing beside a survivor during difficult moments and reminding them that what happened was not their fault. These acts of support matter, and they can make a meaningful difference.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month is also a call to action for the entire community. Preventing sexual violence is not only the responsibility of survivors or service providers. It takes all of us—families, educators, faith communities, local leaders, and neighbors—working together to promote respect, accountability, and safety.
This month, we encourage our community to learn more, speak up, and support survivors in tangible ways. Whether that means sharing resources, attending awareness events, or simply being a trusted and compassionate presence for someone in need, every action helps build a stronger and safer Sampson County.
At U Care, Inc., we believe every survivor deserves to be heard, supported, and empowered. This Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we stand with survivors and renew our commitment to building a community where healing is possible and violence is never tolerated.
